One of the ethical attributes widely pursued by institutions and valued by their members is integrity. Integrity can be described as consistency between words and actions, between who you are and what you do. One source of its foundation is virtue ethics, especially the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition. The Spanish philosopher Leonardo Polo is generally recognized as a neo-Aristotelian.
From this perspective, the concept of integrity tends to be related to character, coherence and consistency. But although Leonardo Polo’s work has been covered by some authors, his notion of integrity has been little explored.
Therefore, I seek to understand how Leonardo Polo (2016; 2019) understands human integrity, in order to offer a basis of integrity for the tradition of virtue ethics in the field of business sciences. I first delved into the author’s work with the course Formación superior en la Filosofía de Leonardo Polo, linked to the Universidad de Navarra (2022-2023). This resulted in a first article on the subject, presented as a course requirement. In the current project, we will explore the concept of human integrity more closely.
Considering the systemic method proposed by Polo to approach ethics and the human essence, this article explores the systemic character by which the human being perfects himself and at the same time maintains a dynamic integrity.
