Generative Artificial Intelligence: On the impossibility of an AI system having a moral experience

Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses ethical problems. This article addresses the ethics of AI, focusing on artificial moral agency (AMA), with the aim of investigating whether AI can have a moral experience. We argue that AI lacks the intrinsic capacity that provides freedom for moral agency. Using cybernetic approaches and systems theory, we conclude that AI emulates the “principles of judgment” by adhering to extrinsic norms, which highlights the need to reflect on AMA and its social repercussions.
